Musings on the 2006 NBA draft
The NBA draft happened a few days ago, and let me tell you: TiVo was made for this thing. I guess the only better application of TiVo is the NFL Draft. I mean, the ability to skip through Stephen A. Smith’s interminable forced “intensity”—does anything else think this guy must suffer from the worst hemorrhoids ever?!—is worth ever penny of the TiVo $12.95/mo fee.
As for draft grades, I dunno what the hell to think. To me, if you do know how to actually rate a draft, or know what’s going on pre-draft, you are a dedicated, dedicated person. Well folks, that just ain’t me. But the “experts”—who, by the way, picked all four #1’s to reached the Final Four this year—seemed to approve of the Bulls’ moves (see Tyrus Thomas from LSU, pictured at right). So, uh, I’m happy.
The two notable Illini, James Augustine and Dee Brown, fared a little worse than expected. Auggie went at #41 to Orlando and Dee at #46 to Utah, where he’ll get to play alongside Deron Williams. That connection should probably offset the notable lack of strip clubs and black people in Salt Lake City. I wonder if heeding my advice to stay out of the 2005 draft hurt Dee. Who knows?
If you want a good roundup, I suggest you check out Joey’s entry. I haven’t been reading Joey’s blog in the last few months, even though the content is consistently excellent, and I feel bad about that. Problem is, dude posts so much that I get an inferiority complex just from looking at the “unread items” number in my newsreader. (Same thing with Darren Rowse.) Well, I gotta get on that shit.
p.s. Considering some “expert” from CBS Sportsline is high on the Bazers (pun) and down on the Bulls, and the ESPN commentators were ripping into Portland and praising Chicago, I’m convinced no one has any idea what the hell is going on.

By the way, that guy on cbssportline.com, Tony Mejia, is a complete ass clown. Read some of the user comments about him. He simply doesn’t know the facts and hasn’t researched anything.
