Reason #4071 why the government is retarded

I recently received notice from the Illinois Secretary of State that it’s time to renew my license plates. The cost is $78. Fine. But I ask you, where else, in what other industry, would you be penalized for using the simplest, most efficient option?

Drivers are given three ways to pay: by mail, in person, and online/by phone. The first two cost $78. Here’s what good ol’ Jesssssssse White has to say about the online/telephone option:

Visit www.cyberdriveillinois.com or call 866-545-9609. The Renewal Code and PIN Number are required. Payment must be made with a valid Visa, MasterCard, Discovery, or American Express. A convenience fee applies to online and phone renewal transactions.

So…

  1. We’re penalized for using technology.
  2. The union has to be in on this somehow.
  3. Thanks for telling me how steep the “convenience fee” is, fartknocker.

They have to have some way to fund the road work to make sure that we can’t actually get anywhere fast in our cars.

they are passing on the credit card fees (usually 3%) they have to pay for you using a credit card. if you pay in person with a credit card, you also pay extra. just like if you opt to pay your taxes with a credit card, you pay extra. in the “old” days, they used to have different prices for cash or credit, like at a gas station.

That may be true, BUT the labor costs saved should more than make up for it.
