Tell me about a good band I’ve never heard of
I am sick and tired of listening to the same MP3s. Therefore, I charge you, the reader, with the following task. It will take you under 60 seconds.
Tell me:
- The name of a good band or artist I’ve never heard of
- A good song by them
- Why I would like them, in one sentence.
This is your duty. Go.

Artist: Shpongle
Song: Around the World in a Tea Daze
Reason: Long down tempo experimental music that spans genres and styles, therefore never getting repetitive, making for a blissful, eargasm-inducing listening experience.
My recommended song comes from their Tales of the Inexpressible album, but you can find a download link by using Dogpile.

Artist: The Sim Redmond Band
Song: Life is Water
Reason: Perfect music for a Chicago spring and summer. Laid back sort of island sound slash almost Paul Simon Graceland-esque. Besides, you can download their stuff for free on their site.

deerhoof “apple steals a heart” (sorry songtitle may be wrong, apple o’ is the name of one album) great experimental band live and recordingwise, all about fun and broken english
sonic youth, the velvet underground: 2 mega famous bands… both “rhythm” guitar players (quotes are big in SYs case because he writes and sings too) went to Syracuse U. I don’t know if you’d like that or not.
thestudiofix ‘panicking’ completely local to LA area, also dedicated only to fun basically
dead meadow “shivering trees and others” (not sure about the name of a song… but like droney fuzzed out stuff
darker my love “summer’s gone” also droney fuzzed out stuff but like it happened to the beach boys. These guys are cool mello rockers.
lot’s more out there. I’m just putting these out there because they’re rather accessible and not really played on commercial radio much at all.

it isn’t hard to define good bands or musicians. I mean all you have to do is take a look at ancient rock albums. For example: the doors, queen, pink floyd, deep purple, led zeppelin……

band- black rebel motorcycle club
song- weapon of choice
why- the band is actually becoming more popular so you may have heard it, but anyway, this song is alternative, and as a general statement, i think certain songs under this genre can appeal to anyone.
hint- if you have itunes, it will suggest songs that you may be interested in based on ones already bought by you, and many of those are new bands.
