Things are funnier when you’re walking away
If you’re walking away from someone else’s conversation and you can just hear bits and pieces of it, that often makes it a lot funnier. For example, a friend of mine has some random rash (no, not an STD—get your mind out of the gutter), and another friend of mine thinks it’s a seasonal thing. So I hear this as I’m walking to the bathroom:
Friend 1: “I think it’s from something growing.”
Friend 2: “You think it’s from something growing?
Friend 1: “You know, it’s April, lots of stuff is growing.”
Friend 1: “So… ‘April rashes bring May… sashes?’ ”
That “April rashes” thing was kind of funny because I was barely within earshot. Otherwise? Not funny.
