underscorebleach.net time warp!

old splashEver wondered what underscorebleach.net looked like a in 2003? Ever wondered what it looked like in… 2000?

Well, that’s a trick question! It didn’t exist in 2000! Why, back then I was using http://i.am/_bleach and http://underscorebleach.n3.net. Oh, those were heady times, they were. But while I can’t recreate those old URLs, I can show the old designs I dug up on some archive CDROMs.

First up, my old homepage. How many frames are in this design? I’ve got no goddamn idea, but the MGM Grand has set the over/under at 12. “Was that designed in MS Paint?” you ask. No, no: Paint Shop Pro, my friends.

Next up, a lovely homepage design from October of 2000. This thing is using bleeding-edge Paint Shop Pro technology. I was really pushing the envelope. Don’t miss the information about my high-powered server at the time (running off Mom’s cable modem).

Oh, and the jotsheet? That’s the thing you’re reading right now, the blog you know and love. Here’s the look and feel from June 2001.

I’ve also got for you a design that I don’t believe ever saw the light of day. Mmm, can’t imagine why.

To round things out in 2001, how about a couple splash screens? It was 2001, after all. Hadn’t learned my lesson yet. Here’s one… oh, and another.

By 2003, I think you’ll agree things had improved a bit (link to Internet Archive). I stuck in this goofy thing called “schemes” that allowed you to change the colors of the site using a hackish javascript I put together. I’m pretty sure it pre-dated the ALA article and all those tagalongs, but I could be wrong.

And how about the content! That is high-quality stuff, baby!

Dude, the New Church is a cult. That’s why they asked you to come to their brain wash center err… school so many times. If Apple’s a cult then the Swedenborgians most certainly are.

Whoa there, buddy. Don’t be so fast and loose with the “cult” label. Swedenborgians are a Protestant religion with ritual similar to Episcopalians and beliefs with a mystical bent. Cult! I think not.
