I’d like to give a shout-out to my dishwasher

DishwasherTonight, I’d like to recognize a relatively underappreciated kitchen appliance: the dishwasher.

This is my first apartment with a dishwasher. Man, do I ever love this thing. In previous apartments, I was “pretty good” (ahem) about taking out the trash, but dishes… well, sometimes I neglected them just a bit. And, you know, once in a while I’d find mold growing on my dishes. It can be rinsed off, sure, but the smell is what’s problematic.

The dishwasher solves all that. Not only does it clean dishes, automatically, with basically no work from the human, but it offers a place for stinky dishes to be locked up, too. This is basically perfect. I live in my own place, so I’m not doing dishes every day, or even every other day, but my dishes can stink like cattle ass and it doesn’t matter. I just pack them into my trust GE dishwasher, and voila!—out of sight, out of mind.

Hell, if Ben and I had a dishwasher at our old place, I think it would have actually improved our relationship. I wouldn’t have been stressed out about Ben’s tandoori chicken pans, and he wouldn’t have been annoyed by my bowl-of-cereal-in-the-sink-for-a-month debacles. I bet we wouldn’t have gotten in that almost-fight about American foreign policy, too! (True story!)

So next time you’re in your kitchen, thank your dishwasher. It’s doing yeoman’s work and it’s keeping your family intact.

The dishwasher would like to give a shoutout too. Remember that commericial where the the part of the dishwasher where you put the soap and that part of the dishwasher was actually a mouth and that mouth actually talked and it said gimme some of that good dishwasher detergent!
