Ryan nailed it with #2. An added bonus to staying up way too late to delay the dreaded next day is that my sleep-deprived brain fog numbs me to whatever it was that I dreaded.

My dog has too much sense to stay up late with me, so he never lets me sleep in, dammit.

Yeah, night guy always screws over morning guy. Besides your reason, I know for me there are two other reasons I stay up late on sundays.

1. I’ve often taken a football nap earlier in the day and I have a little burst of energy around normal bedtime. By the way, how glorious are football naps? Can you comment on this?

2. I don’t want the weekend to end. I think this gets down to the root of the problem for me. You see, every friday there’s a part of me that thinks I’m done with work forever and will live in a perpetual weekend state. Maybe I’m just an optimist. I also kind of always feel like the weekend will hold some chick related excitement. Anyway, come Sunday I haven’t completely come to grips that with the fact that the weekend is coming to the end, and I try to prolong the fun, even if it’s just by watching TV later than I should.

I hear ya. I don’t know what comedian said it, but he suggested that crime rates and violent conflicts would virtually disappear if everyone went to sleep when they were tired and got up when they weren’t.
