Ben catches the blogging bug

It’s too bad more of my friends don’t blog—I guess that’s a casualty of being one of the nerdier among them. But Ben, who vies with me for nerdiness (albeit in different areas), looks to have caught a case of the blogging bug. Truth be told, his passion for blogging will probably last as long as his commitment to keep his Mazda spotless, but he’s already done good work on his baby blog. He’s also made fun of me, so I’m obliged to call him out here.

Ben is a very good friend of mine, and we’re similar in many ways, but one way we’re dissimilar is in our consumer attitudes. Ben is a marketer’s wet dream. He’s the kind of consumer whom vapid advertising chicks salivate over (and that’s not just because of his burgundy Italian leather coat). The man likes to spend money on things. But he also likes to get things for free…

Motorola Razr V3With bristling, boyish curiosity; a newfound desire for blogging; and a healthy dose of materialistic envy, Ben set out to get a free* Motorola Razr V3 phone. I could have told the lad there’s no such thing as a free lunch, but he persevered, as much to figure out how they were going to try to swindle and screw him as for the phone itself. You’ll have to read the meandering tale of the free* Razr phone for yourself, but trust me: there’s a good reason why we put an asterisk next to “free.”

Venturing deeper into the blogging waters, Benny Boy offered a generally positive review on a generally laughable movie, Star Wars III. He’s got a strong stomach for melodrama. I had to look away and choke back the bile during the Hayden Christensen-Natalian Portman dialogue scenes.

Lastly, check out a preview of the new “cheesy crunch wrap” “crunch wrap supreme” from Taco Bell, an item he’s sampled by virtue of his inside connections with important folks in the fast food industry. Since about 60% of his appetite is composed of fast food, Taco Bell and other chains lean heavily on Mr. Cherry for advice about new items. Fast food connoisseurs will be excited to read this preview of Taco Bell’s latest creation.

And by the way, why am I linking all of Ben’s blog entries on a site called “Sibylline Consulting?” You’d think BenjaminCherry.com would do, but Ben mangled that domain in his free* Razr deal by signing up with some shitty hosting company where WordPress doesn’t work properly. TroubleAfoot.com would have been a good domain for Ben, but alas, he let that one expire and it’s been scarfed up by the spammers. (You can still find remnants of Ben’s old blog at TroubleAfoot at the Internet Archive.) And CherryCG.com? Well, who knows where my man’s going with that name, right?
