Nordstrom shoplifter
Today, while walking to the “L,” I saw a cop lead a chick out of Nordstrom in handcuffs. She had obviously been arrested for shoplifting. I found it amusing.

Will the case of Francis Hwang’s attempted sale of a “Negativland vs. U2″ iPod mark Apple’s descent from merely litigious to schizophrenically paranoid? Perhaps.
Let’s just say this: Apple has not handled their recent success well. Everyone seems to love the iPod, and it’s allowed Apple to appeal to a broader range of consumers, but with that popularity comes a responsibility to a be a little more professional and a little less off-the-cuff. Put another way, it would behoove Apple to be more corporate. I’m serious. For example, the cutesy crap in their FAQ a few months ago just doesn’t fly if you want to play with the big boys (Microsoft, Dell, Intel, etc.).
Apple would be wise to lay off a lawsuit against Hwang, since they haven’t a leg to stand on, but lately they’ve been making corporate lawyers everywhere veerrrry wealthy. They’ve been suing Macintosh enthusiasts, suing other companies, suing anyone they can find. Prudence in jurisprudence never was the forte of Apple.
Though I love Firefox and have used it as my default browser for many months now, it seems FF users are too smug about the browser’s security. Some seem to think it impregnable to exploits and vulnerabilities, especially compared to its more popular, jock brother, Internet Explorer. But as Mozilla creeps up in popularity, it is bound to gather more attention from black hats, to which a PCWorld news story makes the very good point:
…now we know they’re amazingly easy to dupe, too. How’s that for having your anti-Microsoft bias called out? The rest of the world continues to laugh at the amazingly pathetic /. losers.
I’ve been curious for some time how to measure the efficiency and speed of various javascript engines. A neat link from Sotto gave me the answer: BenchJS JavaScript Speed Test.
I conducted some benchmarking tests on my own machine (2.6 GHz machine running Windows 2000) and confirmed what Sotto already knew: Opera blows other browsers out of the water in terms of JavaScript speed. The details of my tests are as follows:
Holy shit! We signed a decent wideout! This is the best thing to happen to the Chicago Bears receiving corps since Marcus Robinson. Carolina’s loss is Chicago’s gain, baby. This guy is the real deal.
And let me be the first to say that I’m not at all disappointed to not be putting all our draft eggs in another Michigan basket. The last one… well, he didn’t exactly make an omelette.
