My building’s (strange) graffiti problem
My building seems to have a graffiti problem. It seems as though the odd little convenience store on the corner—the one owned by Pakistanis where all of the crazy people in my neighborhood congregate and buy cigarettes—is perpetually getting tagged.
I guess that’s rather unremarkable, but today I noticed that the newest graffiti included “Jesus Saves.” Now what would compel a graffiti “artist” (i.e. felon) to pass on this message? Damaging a property and committing a crime… to spread the good Word of the Lord? I just don’t see it.
Kinda reminds me of churches with neon signs. I don’t trust those.

My corner store got hit with “Bush Sucks” (or some such) day after election.
1. Can my tagger even vote? Is s/he registered, much less old enough? If the answer is “yes,” that’s a sad commentary.
2. Could my tagger give one reason “why” Bush sucks?

Hi! Nice place you’ve got here. I’m visiting from lgf. Thanks for the “mirror” for zombie’s pics of the anti-terrorism rally in BERKELEY(?!!). It looks like, according to a rodeo post on your blog, they’ll be needing the rally in Roanoke (sp) next.
I don’t know how to relate to this post though, as we don’t have a “Jesus saves” graffiti problem in my village in Israel. In fact, the only shop we’ve got in town is a grocery store - we call it “The Mall”- and it’s not big enough to write on. However, with a nursery school, kindergarten, girls high school, and a small Yeshiva boys college, there is great potential for graffiti at the bus stop.
It’s been a pleasure to be here. Your site is very refreshing. You’d hardly even notice there’s a war on. :)
See you later.

graffiti isnt done to purposely perform a criminal act. Graffiti is a form of public self-expression. Its one of the only ways people can get their word seen and heard. Rules and laws are only put in place by other humans like ourselves who have power and authority. If the government wants to say something so everyone can hear, theyll get on TV and make a big announcement because they have the authority and power to do so. If a street kid wants to get something heard how are they going to get their voice in the open??? graffiti is a form of self expression and is the only voice some people have…
