psst.. this blog is on hiatus.

Simplify: A new design

The only thing I’ve done on this extraorinarily unproductive Saturday is to redesign my website. I’d say that’s a failure of a day.

Leaving that aside, let me briefly mention why I changed the site from the previous design.

I was sick of:

  • The cluttered CSS,
  • The annoying JavaScript,
  • The plethora of server-side includes (which you never see),
  • A poor setup in my MT templates (ditto), and
  • The cluttered look-and-feel.

So I made this. It’s cleaner and more legible, I hope. It eliminates some of the junk in the previous right nav, and it takes advantage of my newly streamlined six-item main navigation.

I was inspired by the simplicity of mayhaps.com, a quirky little site I stumbled upon through the magic of bored-at-work Googling.

Do you like it? Chime in.

i like it. but. i don’t like how you have the underscorebleach.net heading at the bottom. the problem i have with this is that the line of visual interest is triangular and really, ideally, it should be reverse-triangular, or square or rectangle. i suppose i’d have less of a problem with a bottom ‘heading’ (suppose it’s not a heading if it’s at the bottom, but whatever, i was up til like 5 am) if the bottom heading didn’t create that line that was longer than the line of the rest of the page. you don’t want viewers doing work when looking at the bottom of the page! you want the work to be the FIRST thing. anyway. enough of my design rant. i’m liking the streamlined navigation. i told you that though.

Strange. Must be a browser issue. I checked it in Opera 7, IE6, and Mozilla 1.0 PR. Could it be an IE5.5 issue? I’ll look into it.
