Laughable British newspapers
For all you snobs out there who like to babble on about the superiority of British newspapers over their American counterparts, I encourage you to read this Guardian piece on Bush’s National Guard service. Published September 12, 2004, it makes zero mention of the controversy regarding the authenticity of the CBS documents. Of course, that’s been the talk of the news world for the last two days.
Now wait—they do have the Internet over there in England, right? Or did the transatlantic mail freighter sink in Hurricane Ivan?

Except that when the White House handed over their *own* copies of the documents, they turned out to be - whoops! - the *CBS* documents! Ha!
Talk about laughable.

In either case, all analyses seem to have been done from copies–or copies of faxes of PDFs–and thus a reliable determination of authenticity is impossible. This is pretty straightforward, and it’s patently irresponsible on CBS’ part not to have disclosed this beforehand.

On that, we are agreed.
I was reading a liberal blogger’s website the other day, where their sole (and quite strident) defense of the documents was that CBS stood behind them.
My mind flitted to The New York Times and the Jayson Blair scandal. The NYT stood behind him until their backs were against the wall, so the fact that a news organization *says* that what they present is factual isn’t enough to convince me that it is so.
And that’s pretty sad, when you think about it.

You’re an arse, as is Bush. Travel out of that god damn country if you want a realistic view of what he’s doing to you all.
