Action star fantasy, prompted by CD player

I know this sounds goofy, but walking from work to the train is so much more interesting when done to the theme from The Saint, as performed by Orbital. Suddenly, everything becomes exciting and dramatic.

You can share in my Bond-esque fantasies by listening to the midi, written by Anne Wallace.

The beauty of cut-and-paste

Cut-and-paste (and its brother, copy-and-paste), were invented in 1981 by Apple. Last night, for no particular reason, I realized what a gorgeous concept this is. It’s beautiful! It raises productivity everywhere. Three cheers for CTRL-X, CTRL-C, and CTRL-V!

Snake II high score

Snake II high score (1609)I’ve taken to playing crappy cell phone games to pass the time in boring situations. I’m particularly partial to Snake II, which is an oddly addictive game. Problem is, I’ve always been bad at it.

Until now! With a previous high score in the low 700s, last night I absolutely wrecked shop on my Nokia 3360 to achieve the stellar mark of 1609. (FYI, it’s annoying to play on the crappy old 3360 because the buttons are small and sometimes unresponsive.)

I’d like to see you beat THAT, Cameron Smith!

Sunroofs galore

I was walking down the street yesterday and noticed something odd: nearly every car seemed to have a sunroof. I’d never much considered the worth of a sunroof until I bought a new car with one, but for some reason, I thought they were fairly uncommon. I was certainly wrong!

Via the magic of the Intarweb, I was able to track down the extremely useless fact that more than 30% of all new vehicles are sold with sunroofs. Seems even higher to me, but maybe the cars I was observing were better than average.

Never see another Google text ad… ever!

Perhaps text ads are less annoying than banners, and perhaps they’re more effective, but I still don’t want to see them. No, I don’t care if it’s Google, the daahhhling of the “in” geek crowd, serving them up—they’re still ads.

Even though I use Firefox, I was never able to get rid of these text ads. Via a built-in Firefox function, I could easily ignore domains of images (via the right-click menu), but text was a different animal. I thought I was stuck. I was wrong.

Weenie parenting 101

A rant on this subject has been percolating in my mind for months. An incident this morning during my commute on the El downtown provided the inspiration for putting it to blog.

I’m on the El, sitting in one of the sideways seats adjacent to the doors, and across from me are a couple and their three or four year-old daughter. The father is in a side seat, like me, and the mother is facing him with the child on her lap. Referring to the diagram below, Dad is in seat2, while Mom and Daughter are in seat4:

|----------|---------| |-----|
| seat1 | seat2 | |seat3|
|----------|---------| |-----|
                         |seat4|
                         |-----|

Daily Kos chokes, suffocates while eating crow

So you’re a left-wing, paranoid schizophrenic and you’re absolutely convinced that this whole “forgery” this was created by the right-wing blogosphere. You’re incensed, you’re frustrated, and boy, you’re gonna do some research. You’re gonna set everyone straight! And you’re gonna get linked from every other left-wing, paranoid schizophrenic’s blog!
