Sick, and watching TV

I don’t normally watch TV. Kinda got out of the habit of it. But since I’ve been sick for the past 4 days with a terrible sore throat and headache, I haven’t had much else to do. TV has become part of my world again.

The good news is that all of the stuff I shouldn’t be getting on DISH is coming in, like HBO and Cinemax. (No, the porn doesn’t come in for free, dumbass.) So today I watched The Saint, and for some reason, I really like that movie. Big-chinned Val Kilmer is perfect for his role of chameleon thief, and I want to jump Elizabeth Shue’s bones. I mean, she is hot in that flick. Wow.

Last night, I watched an amazing show on the Discovery Channel called “America’s Deadliest Season: Alaskan Crab Fishing.” It was part one of a three-part series. Let me tell you, that Bering Sea crab fishing is some serious shit, dude. Watching those guys operate made me realize again what an utter pansy-ass I am. Their job is the most statistically dangerous in the world, followed by mining, refinery work, and logging. The fishermen call the Discovery Channel series overdramatic in this review, but it was still enough to scare me into respecting them.

On the other end of the spectrum, there’s this ridiculous new crap on MTV called “Battlegrounds: King of the World.” Now first of all, what the fuck kind of marketing hack picked the name for this show? Could it be any more over the top? “America’s deadliest season” is spot on, you see, but these chumps are capable of nothing more than basketball. King of the world my ass.

Anyway, the premise is that a bunch of streetballers from the U.S. and Europe compete to be crowned “King of the World.” Here’s the central problem: the basketball sucks. These motherfuckers are terrible! I mean, they’re probably good, but goddamn, it’s boring as hell to watch. All they do is back each other down and shoot fadeaways. Most of the time, the defensive player hacks the offensive player. This is crap. It’s worse than watching little league baseball on ESPN2. Go to your neighborhood basketball court and I’ll guarantee you’ll be more entertained.

Oh, and I watched Rambo III last night. That was the schnizzle!

Glad you liked the Discovery Channel piece. I’ve been in this business for the last 20 years… I know a handful of those guys they show, and Yes DC did put a little Polish and dramatic music to it that having lived it I thought was kinda cheesey, but it does give you a pretty good look at what it takes to bring Crab, and other “Wild Caught” Seafood to people all over the world.

If anybody has contact information for Tom, please email me; grizzle@collinscom.net. I’ve been asked by a buddy a few years back if I’d be interested in joining him to go up there for a season of King Crab Fishing, but things didn’t turn out for a reason or another. Tom, I’m interested, where do I sign up?
