The goodness of bad songs
I’ve noted how worthless I believe music critics are. Those in Rolling Stone, Spin, Blender, and the countless other boiler plate music rags out there have taken their worthlessness to a new level with a new fad: making lists of bad music, rather than good music.
Okay. Piggybacking on this deplorable trend is VH1’s “50 Most Awesomely Bad Songs…Ever.” In this little doozy of a television show, VH1 teams with Blender Magazine to name the 50 worst songs ever. But DUDE… these songs are great! Go to the page, and I guarantee you that you love at least 50% of the songs listed. Hell, what’s a “good” song? Something from Billy Joel? Linda Ronstadt? Bette Midler?
The worst songs… and I mean the truly bad ones… those are usually the gems. They keep you coming back. The badness is like the MSG in Chinese food. So why don’t these college dropouts-turned-writers—whoops, I mean critics for music rags—get in touch with the rest of the world?
