I am aware that traditional newspapers are hard-pressed these days to attract younger readers, perhaps harbingering the passing of print news, but I fear I know not the depths to which they will stoop to ward off the Reaper.
From a July 31, 2004 Associated Press story detailing the results of the U.S. Olympic men’s basketball team first game, a 96-71 exhibition win over Puerto Rico:
Dwyane Wade had eight assists, more than half of which were alley-oops, or sweet, no-look feeds. *
It is a sad day indeed to find “sweet” used as a synonym for “spectacular” in the most widely used wire service in American newsprint.
