Update: The CTA’s explanation for the Red Line delay
Correction: I was wrong. The CTA has heard of the Chicago Cubs, and it was extenuating circumstances that caused Tuesday’s aggravating delays on the Red Line.

Dear Mr. Sherman:
Thank you for your complaint. The CTA runs as many Red Line trains as
possible when the afternoon rush hour coincides with an evening Cubs game,
though we are not in a position to shortchange our service in the other
direction (any more than we would reduce North Side service below the
needs of our commuters when there is a Sox game).
As it happens, there was a delay right before you were waiting at Grand
Avenue Tuesday, when a person took ill at Washington Street and had to be
removed by ambulance. This, at the height of rush hour, did cause a
back-up that resulted in longer-than-expected waits and crowded trains.
We apologize for the delay and we will always endeavor to run the Red Line
trains as frequently as possible at those times.
Sincerely,
Terry
