Easter basket traditions flouted!

Easter for my family is about searching for chocolate eggs, eating good food, and sitting around drinking coffee. It’s good family time. (Somewhat regrettably, it’s not about Christ at all, but I guess I’ll just have to live with that.) It was special this year in that all of the adults (Tyson, Maryalice, myself) had baskets of their own to search for, in addition to the baskets that the kids searched for. Problem was, we kept finding each other’s and having to re-hide them. It’s amusing to see adults hunting around the house for candy. I also got to search for a few eggs in the kitchen, and the rest of the family took the opportunity to rag on me when I couldn’t find all of the eggs. But I was just reaping what I’d sown, since I’m normally the Chief Ragger in the family.

When I finally did find my basket, I raised boisterous objections because it egregiously violated customary Easter basket protocol. The “basket” (I use this term loosely) had been placed in a drawer with the contents divided up (loose candy separated from Peeps and chocolate egg) and the “basket” consisting of a short, low-profile container occupying far less space than a normal basket. In short, the Easter Bunny had hoodwinked me by hiding the candy in a space that a normal basket could never fit into. I was rightfully indignant about this violation of traidition, but on the other hand, it’s always good to have a challenge on Easter morning.
