Webgeek tidbits

I’m a big Webgeek™, and for the other Webgeeks out there, I figger I’ll letcha know the 4-1-1 on Tom’s Nerd Life.

Mozilla Firebird is now Mozilla Firefox, which sounds suspiciously to me like Starfox (of Super Nintendo fame). Now there was a game I blew at; at age 9, I’d go into the Service Merchandise next to my mom’s realty and just suck up the place big-time on their Super Nintendo demo. Man was I bad.

Hold on a second, wasn’t I talking about a Web browser? Yes, that’s right: Mozilla Firefox. With the move from version 0.7 to 0.8, they’ve renamed it again, bringing the number of name changes initiated by the Mozilla Foundation to roughly six dozen. Anyway, all that aside, Fire(fox)(bird) is an excellent browser. It is my default browser, and I consider it several levels above IE6 and Opera.

Well now, since you know about Firefox, it’s time to clue you into two sweet little add-ons for the browser: Googlebar and the Web Developer Toolbar. The former emulates Google’s excellent add-on for IE, while the latter adds all kinds of functionality to Firefox for the trendy, standards-aware Web developer (that’s you! hahah).

In a minor note, I got my first piece of Movable Type comment spam on this blog. Actually, I was waiting for this to happen, so I’ve already implemented auto-closing comments on entries older than three weeks. This is accomplished via the simple (although not incredibly flexible) MTCloseComments plugin. Is this like shooting a bunny rabbit with a bazooka? You bet your ass it is, homeslice!

And in closing, I’d like to say just how amusing I find this W3C validation error (as of 10 February 2004): http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http://validator.w3.org/check
