This LeBron hype is a little tough to swallow

LeBron James scored 7 points as his Cavs lost 93-89 in the oh-so hyped matchup against the Nuggets. The other Savior-to-Be, Carmelo Anthony, scored 14 points. Good thing this was touted as the next Bird vs. Magic rivalry! And seemingly unwilling to accept the fact that it just didn’t pan out, SportCenter dedicated two of the top three plays in its Top 10 to LeBron dunks. Wait a minute, the guy went 3 for 11. You featured 66% of his made field goals?

Whew! LeBron is already getting the over-the-hill Jordan hype. (Remember that pathetic spectacle? 39 year-old Jordan would manage a reverse layup and it would lead SportCenter.) LeBron hasn’t done a thing yet in the NBA, and his just-like-everyone-else’s dunks are splattered all over the sports channels like classic playoff moments. Let the kid earn his stripes. Ain’t never been to the playoffs, ain’t never won MVP, ain’t never won the scoring title. Hell, still ain’t won a game in the NBA yet. Think about that next time you’re picking the illustrious Top 10 Plays, ESPN.

I think the kid’ll be good, but damn, let him earn it. He probably will, too.
