psst.. this blog is on hiatus.

Much Music, come down south!

what happens when Slick Willy and Jimmy Carter appoint most of the judges in a federal appellate circuit? you get an irrational, oft-overturned, and embarrassing Ninth Circuit.

hrm. a few comments about today’s music…

  • almost all of it sucks.
  • the remix of “Welcome to Atlanta” is real cute.
  • Ja Rule has a funny eye that closes more than his other one.
  • MTV actually has the nerve to advertise MTV2 like it’s a new idea. a station that plays only videos? holy fucking shit! what a great alternative to the original MUSIC Television!
  • Chris Carraba (of Dashboard Confessional) is still a fucking pansy, even if he has all those tattoos.
underscorebleach: i think musicians should stick to what they do best: getting up on a stage and prancing around

underscorebleach: that goes for Bono, too.
new dictionaries: freedom of speech my man.
underscorebleach: freedom of ignorance my woman!
new dictionaries: BAH.
underscorebleach: oh ya, baby.
new dictionaries: it’s cold in my room.

underscorebleach: maybe Fiona Apple will lobby Congress to provide you with a heater

new dictionaries: you are so mean
underscorebleach: :)

chess is for dorks

do you think blog entries should consist entirely of Yahoo! Chess histories? if so, please visit Ben Cherry’s Web site. but i must admit, Ben is right about “Rexall” by Dave Navarro — what a great song. i can’t even explain it. the sound is somehow perfectly appropriate for now. (and if you like it, try Econoline Crush — “All That You Are.”)

and so it continues with Maryalice’s dissertation. it’s coming along, slowly but surely. we’ll get there, we’ll get there. at least the computer in the CRESS lab is nice. 17″ flat panel? yow!

maybe it’s an odd thing for a Northwestern student to write, but i love the University of Illinois campus, despite (or perhaps because of) the fact that i’ve lived in Champaign-Urbana my entire life. i walk around campus and i feel like i’m at college. i experience a sense of awe and history and significance that’s absent in Evanston. the place is just impressive to me. here, take a look, courtesy of photographer Larry Kanfer.
