first day o’ classes
let’s see. first day of classes. first day back to work. first day on a supposed diet. first day in a while of doing some decent exercise. first day in weeks i haven’t been slothful.
ok, first things first: it’s absofuckinglutely astonishing how many FILTHY RICH kids go to NU. yes, i know this has become a routine for me; i return from a break of some length and i’m bowled over by the sheer wealth of these kids. for reference, please see here and here.
i’ve been to two classes thus far, and both seem decent. Intro to Micro with Ricky Lam was pretty unbelievable, if only for the fact that this professor gave an unabashedly conservative lecture the first day of class! he said that the free market maximizes welfare! it was unbelievable! i bout keeled over from disbelief. immediately afterward, however, in Bill Heyck’s British History: 1688-Present, i knew i was in for the standard liberal fare. he read a few passages from some books discussing modern Britain, but strangely enough, felt compelled to introduce only the conservative book as such. the other passages were read with nary a comment about the author’s politics. hmm.
i have a lot of things to do in the next couple of weeks. here is a list:
- find an apartment
- get IRB approval for my thesis research over the summer
- get College Scholars approval for my thesis research over the summer
- do some situps
- play some basketball
- make a cute Photoshop-and-iframe site (low priority)
- help Ben destroy some supremely unqualified candidates in the ASG race for Executive Vice President
- get a girlfriend (hahahhaha)
- curb my addiction to FaceTheJury
- translate my e-game into real-life-game
- oh, and maybe study a bit.
tom, meet SPAC!
i am a junior. i have been at Northwestern University for about two and a half years. yet it wasn’t until tonight that i stepped foot in SPAC, NU’s jock-ish workout place. i was pretty intimidated, actually, but there’s really no reason to be. Ben dragged me over there to play basketball, and afterword we worked out a bit. i really am clueless in the gym. overall, the place is a little silly, because a lot of kids are definitely there to be seen and to be able to say they “went to SPAC tonight” (whatever). oh well. the chicks are hot.
there’s a spot at the corner of Orrington and Colfax that i like to park at when i go to work. it’s between a stop sign and a driveway, and there is just enough room for two cars. a good portion of the time, some dumbfuck thinks, “hey, lookie here, they made a nice big spot for me — i think i’ll park smack dab in the middle of it!” and it keeps me from parking there. i see those cars, and i want to run a shopping cart into them. one full of bricks.
after work, i went over to Elder and got Tony’s soundcard working. it was a bit of a task, but i did it. i think he was kind of surprised. then he played some retarded song called the “Ballad of Bilbo Baggins” (or similar), and it was positively awful.
(noting right now that i actually did quite a bit today) i also went with Ben to Olive Mountain for the first time this year. you’ve got to love a place that gives you that much good food for such a low low price. Ben talked about learning to draw the human form. i’m not sure he really got a lot of practice.
