psst.. this blog is on hiatus.

since i’m late to practically every class i have first thing in the morning, i’ve taken the proactive action of setting all the clocks in my apartment forward not once, but TWICE. we’ll see how successful i am in “forgetting” that i set them forward (heh).

so you objectivists are arguing about random hookups, huh? but you’ve never had one? isn’t that, well, a little silly, or perhaps simply indulgent? at the risk of being offensive in some minor way to Mary, let me state what i think should be a guiding principle of religion, morality and ethics:

The strength of belief is a function of experience, not intellect.

so i think it’s a cop-out to go talking about other thinkers and philosophers (e.g. Rand, Freud). other people’s ideas can guide your own, or be a cue for them, but your personal experience should drive your beliefs. a good example of not following this principle is the glut of girls out there in love not with people, but with the idea of being in love. it usually comes crashing down sooner or later.

now you might counter and say, “if i don’t believe in random hookups, i can’t adhere to my own morals AND base my belief on ‘experience.’” true. but the strength of your belief is thus correspondingly weaker.

i’m not recusing myself from this principle, of course. the fact that i believe in abstinence is hard to strengthen “by experience,” simply as a definitional matter. so i must resign myself to holding a correspondingly untested and potentially weak belief.

i’m tired. Thursdays are killer. can you believe a three hour class that goes past the scheduled time?! geez.

i’m in the process of reworking the underlying HTML in this site. i’m sure that exactly one person (me) cares. basically, right now, the site layout is totally driven by absolutely positioned DIVs. i’m converting over to a combination of DIVs and TABLEs to add better support for different monitor resolutions. or maybe i won’t. i’m tired.

i hate people who call pansy-ass fouls in pickup basketball.
