New Year’s Eve: 540pm. i’m still not exactly sure what i’m doing tonight. New Year’s doesn’t mean much to me, really. i think it’s silly to get all hyped up about it.

argh, i’m still sick. i took a long, pointless nap today — one of those where you feel exactly the same before and after taking it. i hate those.

yeah, so it’s been an interesting trip so far… we’ll see how things develop.

ow. my body hurts. i’m sick, and i have to fly today. it’s not going to be fun. i just want to sleep.

the trip was fine. pretty uneventful. there were lots of attractive girls on my flight; i enjoyed that. i talked to a nice old guy about computer stuff. i like talking to old people. they’re good at holding conversations.

i’m still sick. Ryan went with his friend Dan (from Davidson) and Dan’s friend Aaron to party in D-Town with Tamaroff, but i stayed home. need to sleep. i can’t let this stupid sickness stick around too long.

well, today has been a “fuzzy” day. my brain has sort of been offline (more than usual, anyway). i took a 4 hour nap from 5pm to 9pm, which didn’t help matters; naps like that always screw me up.

i got a 2002 “A” parking permit today from the City of Evanston today. bureaucracy sucks.

a homeless man slept in my stairwell today. i almost accidentally stepped him on the way downstairs to go to work. neat.

i’m excited about going to Bryn Athyn. i hope my plane doesn’t get hijacked or blown up. if it does, i plan to kill the A-rab with my bare hands.

oh yeah, winter finally got its act together and got here. on December 5, i was hanging out in pants and a t-shirt. weather.com tells me it’s 19 degrees Fahrenheit, with a windchilld of 7. now that’s more like it.

well, i was sitting here next to my spankariffic new scanner, trying to think of something to scan. sitting at my feet was my Law and Culture coursebook. so i thought i’d give y’all a little example of the kind of dense crap we have to read here at NU. it’s pretty amazing sometimes. you can tell from my little “re-read” note that i didn’t get it either. (Habermas, Juergen. Between Facts and Norms: Contributions to a Discourse Theory of Law and Democracy. Cambridge: MIT, 1996. [pp 5]).

man, i love this band called National Skyline. i would describe them as very airy, with something of Radiohead, Coldplay, and HUM (one band member is from the now-defunct HUM).

i went out last night with Somphon and John, Cathy and Jason, and Khamsai and Sam’s cousin (who had a name like “Friday,” but i never really figured out what it was). it was nice to hang out with them. we went to the White Horse. for some reason, bars and places like that still make me nervous. i’m not sure why; it’s not like i can’t get into them legally (btw, the entry age in Champaign is 19).

so today i gotta pack up all my stuff and haul it up to Evanston. then i’m gonna work tomorrow at Webcomm to make some money to set against the cost of my trip to Philly (Dec. 29 - Jan. 6). Pam from the Webcomm office has offered to drive me to O’Hare, which i think is incredibly nice. it’ll make my life a lot easier.

it’s like, all late and stuff. around 4am. i gotta get up at like 830am to work. i was tired before, too. i almost fell asleep on the drive up to Chicago. i had to stop in Onarga to rest. I like that name — “Onarga.”

AIM conversations with Cristina are quite entertaining. maybe that’s why i end up staying up till 5am.

bah. USB is screwed on my computer. the SiS chipset blows. i can’t find a way to circumvent its shittiness.

well anyway, it installed nice and smoothly on my win98 laptop, so i thought i’d share with y’all the results of my first scan, taken from a great Xmas present i received from my sis…

is there anything in this world better than egg nog? i think not.

i picked up my contacts today. for the past month or more, i’ve been driving with glasses that i got when i was 12. they are out of date. i refused to wear them to class, because they are too dorky. so the second half of Fall Quarter, i just “listened” in class a lot. couldn’t read the board for the life of me. kinda nifty, huh? so was my report card. ha.

the xmas haul

*contented sigh*

what a thoroughly enjoyable Christmas. i loved it. it was relaxed and fun. i love my family’s holiday traditions.

we spent about 3 hours opening all the gifts this morning. it’s a family tradition — one gift at a time. it goes slow, but i wouldn’t have it any other way. we take “breaks” for coffee and bagels and stuff. it’s nice and relaxing.

my sister accidentally wrapped an empty box. i thought that was pretty funny.

i also hung out at my Dad’s house for a bit and did the gift exchange there. Cindy and Dad gave me my Illini fix. Tim got me a shirt, which i didn’t expect at all, but i really appreciated.

i can tell that Christmas for me is quite a bit different than it used to be. i really enjoy the “experience” of it all more than anything. i like the relaxed days, the good food, and giving people gifts. i enjoy getting gifts as well, but giving them is more fulfilling.

dinner was excellent, and we stuck to the standard Christmas day fare (another tradition) — ham, mashed potatoes, wine, brussels sprouts (yes!), spinach, and a great chocolate mousse cake my sis made. woooo, if nothing else, i love winter break for the food.

and oh yeah, Joanne brought over some of the famous wild rice soup! the stuff is practically orgasmic.

so yeah, it was great. i have this warm feeling inside now. smiles just come easily to my lips. it’s a welcome change from yesterday, when i was pretty down. i should mention some of the stuff i got, too — not to gloat or anything, but just because i liked it all so much and it’s all useful (my favorite characteristic in a gift).

so here goes. my favorite might be a little $10 CSS reference. along the same lines, i got Linux in a Nutshell, plus a hardcover Fighting Illini basketball book and a hilarious Dating and Sex Worst Case Scenario book. i got an HP 3400Cse scanner so i can add more stupid crap to this site. my dad bought me a coupla Illini t-shirts, which i love, and also a very nifty brown, buffalohide Australian hat. my dad also got me a really nice Liz Claiborne (heh) winter coat, and i got a fall coat because i hate my current one. coupla other shirts, plus my sis got me another one of those nifty quasi-holographic t-shirts that has kind of become my personal fashion trademark (heh). and CDs: the Rolling Stones “Goat’s Head Soup” and “Aftermath,” G Love’s “Coast to Coast Motel,” and Pink Floyd’s “The Final Cut.”

very nice. i am totally satisfied.
