front and center, baby.

do you know how cool it is to walk into the Metro, with the opening act already playing, the fog machine going, everything ready, and you’re the only ones in the room? for 10 minutes? it’s awesome. do you know how cool it is to walk by a 200 foot long line of people and walk right into the venue? it’s awesome. do you know how it is to be front and center, hanging over the railing, noticing the shoes that the performers are wearing? it’s awesome. mary j., i owe you, girl.

the show was incredible. Ugly Duckling was nothing like i thought they’d be — after all, they were opening up for Basement Jaxx — but they were extremely entertaining. kind of a West Coast throwback to old school hip hop days, and DJ Young Einstein even donned a pimp-ass gold chain. i can dig it.

then the Basement Jaxx set was awesome. pure and simple. it was the best show i’ve been to. the 2 DJs plus 5 dancers/musicians/singers and a huge light show and video in the background. amazing. such high energy. i was so sweaty and hot .. it was like a workout.

and the best part? the skinny, lithe black chick who sang “Get Me Off” (track 8 on Rooty) sang part of it to ME. yeah. eye contact. boo-ya.

phew!
