well, finally, the DNS is all set-up properly. the changes have propagated from gandi’s DNS server (somewhere in the EU) over here to the States. i can now also set up jotsheet.underscorebleach.net as an apache vhost. doesn’t really matter at this point, though, because i’m still stuck using some port other than 80 (because of @home’s restrictions). so basically, my recommendation is to use underscorebleach.n3.net to access this site (otherwise http://www.underscorebleach.net:8000).

and i think i should also take this opportunity to plug gandi as a registrar. they’re cheap and they have good config tools (although sometimes you have to click through to actually figure out what the tool does). and despite what some of the info on the site says, you are NOT restricted to only domain.tld and www.domain.tld if you choose to utilize their DNS servers. you have full control — A, CNAME, and MX. they just don’t mention that very loudly.
