Subject: in response to today's editorial

Dear Forum,

I took Terry Bailey and Desiree Evans' challenge and "questioned my
comfort level" about the level of black representation at Northwestern.
If it means holding blacks to the same standard as whites, then guess
what?  I'm pretty damn comfortable.

I hope I speak for the many rational, justice-minded students of
Northwestern in responding to this column with a collective YAWN.  Am I
supposed to be shocked?  Guilted into "calling the Office of
Undergraduate Admissions?"  I just might do that, but only to voice for
my disgust for a population statistic like 12 percent.

Call me "complacent."  If Bailey and Evans' want to equate complacency
with a unabashed disgust for quotas, then I'm as complacent as they come.

Oh, and here's a little taste of your own medicine.  Words you don't
want to hear: Proposition 209. Piscataway, New Jersey.  Bakke.
Appeal to the Supreme Court.  Fairness.
